Author James Slough Zerbe wrote several books aimed at teaching young boys (probably between the ages of 10 and 18) the fundamentals of such things as how motors and airplanes work, basic carpentry and mechanical skills, and the likes.

This two-book large format (8.5 x 11 inches) is the first in our series and presents the reader with Zerbe's CARPENTRY FOR BOYS and ELECTRICITY FOR BOYS.

By today's standards it is difficult to imagine parents allowing young boys to play around with electrical coils and circuits without strict supervision, but it is also a sad reminder that today's youths cannot, for the most part, build a shelf unit or plane down a sticky door or any other basic carpentry skills.

Both books in this volume are profusely illustrated with hundreds of hand-drawn images. These are a fascinating piece of history and give readers of all ages a glimpse into what boys of 100 years ago were reading and doing.
