Author James Slough Zerbe wrote several books aimed at teaching young boys (likely aged between 10 and 18) the fundamentals of such things as how motors and airplanes work, basic carpentry and mechanical skills, and the likes. This two-book large format (8.5 x 11 inches) volume is the second in our series and presents the reader with Zerbe's PRACTICAL MECHANICS FOR BOYS and MOTORS. By today's standards it is difficult to imagine young boys taking the time to understand basic mechanics and how to build things without a parent wrenching the XBox controller out of their hands and forcing them to, but it is also a sad reminder that today's youths, for the most part, have little if any concept about how the engine (called a Òmotor a century ago) in the family car functions. Both books in this volume are profusely illustrated with hundreds of hand-drawn images. These are a fascinating piece of history and give readers of all ages a glimpse into what boys of 100 years ago were reading and doing.
