Almost 20 years after the discovery of gold and the establishment of Idaho Springs, Colorado, a large structure fire inspired the town's citizens to establish a fire department. The men and women who volunteered for the Idaho Springs Fire Department in its first 125 years combined local pragmatism with national standards to provide the means of protection against fire and other hazards for residents and visitors alike.
