The summaries in this volume were presented at the 11th British Geotechnical Association Young Geotechnical EngineersÕ Symposium held at the University of Bristol in July 2010. While these BGA symposia offer an excellent opportunity for young research students, research assistants, and engineers working in industry to present latest developments, projects and techniques applied to the field of geotechnical engineering they also provide a forum where information and ideas can be exchanged in an informal, friendly and constructive atmosphere. For some of the youngest participants these meetings represent their first major conference participation and certainly a significant experience.
