The COMPAS ArtScope Anthology contains creative work by youth who worked under the mentorship of writer May Lee Yang during the summer of 2013.
ArtScope is an arts based job preparation program for young people. While working alongside professional artists, youth obtain real-life experience in the arts sector from art-making and exploration, to administration and networking.
The writing program that produced this anthology engaged eight youth in a four day a week writing intensive. Youth were driven to experiment with different varying genres and writing styles including prose, poetry and storytelling. They learned the challenges of writing and editing their own work, and providing constructive feedback to peers.
The pieces included capture creative writing that truly encapsulates the thoughts and emotions of being a teen.
