_After the fall of troy, Ulysses and his men seek to return to their na- tive land. Among their many adventures, they are captured by an an- thropoghagous Cyclops, Polyphemus. Later, when they meet the Judge of Right, Ulysses buys from him Three Wise Counsels that will help them get home. The tale is based on part of HomerÕs Odyssey, as retold by a medi¾val Irish seanchaidhe, who gave it a distinctly Celtic twist. Readers from Cornwall will easily recognise the story theme of the Three Wise Counsels (ATU type 910B), as itÕs the same one used in the well-known Cornish tale ÔJooan Chei an HorrÕ. In this edition we present the original Middle Irish text (ca.1300 AD), a new Cornish translation, and Kuno MeyerÕs English translation (plus the notes and glossary) from his 1886 work, as well as several academic studies of the text.
