We wanted this book to be open and playful, with something of the creative spirit about it. So we have constructed it as a series of fairly simple statements about the ideas, experiences and approaches that many have reported about creativity. We were keen that these statements come from a wide range of creative traditions and disciplines, so we have taken evidence from artists, scientists, mathematicians, philosophers, psychologists and practitioners from various fields of creativity. The ideas we offer include descriptions of the experiences creative people have reported; theoretical explanations gleaned from various fields of enquiry; some (hopefully) interesting metaphors with which to think about creativity; pieces of practical wisdom expressed by experienced practitioners; and some more speculative statements.
