Most of these poems were written for Hand in Hand, a sit-down, five-course community dinner held once a week in Woodstock, Vermont at the North Universalist Chapel Society. Hand in Hand was begun in 2005 by chef Lauren Wilder, who works with a group of volunteers to provide healthy, high-quality food to anyone who might need a dinner. The food is diverse and multicultural and has a weekly theme such as a holiday, country or historic event. For six years, Elizabeth Bond volunteered at Hand in Hand and wrote a poem (which she read aloud) in response to each dinnerÕs theme. Some of those poems are collected here.
