By the time the Golden Age of comics arrived, Hugo Gernsback had already made his mark on history with the publication of the worlds first true science-fiction magazine Amazing Stories. Hugo Gernsback (for which the famous Hugo Award is named) continues to try to break new ground in literature with the publication of SUPERWORLD COMICS, best described as a science-fiction pulp in comic form. The short-lived series featured Buzz Allen Ð The Invisible Avenger; Hip Knox, The Super Hypnotist; Mighty Powers; and, Marvo 1-2- Go. This was Gernsback (Komos Publications) only comic venture. Midcentury Comics brings you stories and features from Issues #2 & #3 ---- true comic and literary history!
GREEN GIANT COMICS Ð No, he's not spokesperson for the vegetable people. This Golden Age hero, with a touch of his belt, become a massive and powerful fighter of crime! His very short-lived title (one issue) included many other great one-timers, making for one wild Golden Age ride!
In MIDCENTURY COMICS language, a ÒSpecialÓ means that this was put together not only at the request of a reader, but with his/her specific direction and contains what that reader wanted. In this case, while it would be great to have the complete series of SUPERWORLD, and the quality of the GREEN GIANT comic is not great, the readers said ÒGive me what you have!Ó So, this is what it is. You can expect upgrades to both these titles down the road; in the meantime we hope you enjoy their imperfect authenticity.
