"It's OK, I'll tell you, it's critically important for people to understand this and what it does to us. I still have the certificate the vet wrote out the day he died, and Pongo's urn, and the collar he wore that last day. Pongo was 14 and had suffered a stroke about a year and 3 months before. He fully recovered from that first stroke and a year later you would never know it happened but a few weeks after the one year anniversary of the first stroke he had another. The second one made him incontinent and he needed a great deal of help getting around but I gave him time to try and heal. He never did and lost weight. After about 3 months he was clearly wasting away to nothing and I knew then I would have to put him down
