This history of the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska, was written from interviews, personal records, and official ANMC files to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the hospital in 1983. Its author was the medical director of the ANMC from 1971-1977. Dr. Fortuine was a scholar, compassionate physician, award winning medical historian, and an advocate for Alaska Native health.
