Henry Scott Bird was born in 1943 in the Bywater, a bluecollar neighborhood in New Orleans. He was an abnormal child in many ways, born under ill omens; and to add a physical aberration to his troubles, he was an albino. He loses his family at a very young age, and spends a lifetime trying to figure out who he really is.
He was a horror to his mother,
a sorrow to his father,
a son to a gypsy godfather,
a treasure in the world of freaks,
a temptation to the devil,
a chameleon in the jungle,
a spirit to a warrior,
a weapon to the mob,
a loner in prison,
a demon in the war,
and a monster when he comes home again.
The story does not end when he finds his way home. Only then is he liberated to become his true self, the inspiration of outlaws; the dark-natured anti-hero that is The Albino.
