This is the true story of an American soldier who volunteered to serve his country during the Second World War. Unable to join up until the summer of 1943, he spent the most turbulent years of the war as a combat engineer fighting through western Europe and as a German prisoner of war after the Battle of the Bulge. His story is told literally in his own words, having been transcribed by a daughter from audio tapes he made in the mid 1970Õs.
