Baybayin (incorrectly known as Alibata) is a pre-Filipino writing system from the islands called as the ÒPhilippinesÓ. Baybayin comes from the word ÒbaybayÓ, which literally means ÒspellÓ. Alibata was a term coined by Paul Versoza in the early 1900Õs.
