This collection of fourteen ragtime compositions, one for each month of the year plus a couple bonus compositions, is dedicated to the author's parents. The title is a combination of their given names, Anna and Clingman. John's mother Anna bathed him in classical piano music when he was a baby. She graduated from The Juilliard School of Music in New York City, New York, in 1933, and taught piano to scores of young people during John's growing years. When John was in high school, she arranged for him to take lessons from her Juilliard teacher, Gordon Stanley. His father John Clingman, a scientist with a PhD in chemical engineering, gave John a love for science, but also supported his piano instruction and musical activities.
To you the audience, John's hope is that you will enjoy these musical vignettes of his family life in various places over many years and seasons. It is represented here through twelve pieces, one for each month of the year, and one in each key of the twelve keys of the diatonic scale used in keyboard, vocal and orchestral music. Each composition is accompanied by text explaining the origin and circumstances of the composition. In addition, select photos from family and vocational history are included to illustrate family history and the season of life when the composition was first put on manuscript paper. The portfolio also includes two additional pieces that emerged from particular circumstances along the way.
