This is the fifth volume of my cookbook series written on the topic of traditional Hungarian cuisine. Even though I have already published 332 recipes in my previous books, I think I hardly scratched the surface. Our culinary heritage is so rich and there are still so many great recipes I have not published yet, that I decided to write another book. My intention was to gather these recipes and preserve them for the next generation. When I lived in Hungary I did not even notice those treasures that surrounded me every day. However, after spending more than two decades in Canada, I gradually started to recognize how important it is to keep our traditions and pass those values on to our children. From time to time, while I was working on this new book, precious childhood memories came back. I was less than four when our neighbor, a lovely old lady who had no children, invited me for a slice of chocolate cake. I remember sitting in her dining room and curiously watching the old furniture, the elegantly set table with beautiful porcelain plates, while she served her delicious cake. Of course, the most precious memories of all are of my Mom who is also an excellent cook. I had been watching her work in our kitchen since my early childhood, and she inspired me the most. I definitely inherited her passion for cooking and baking. Similarly to the previous volumes, this new book consists of 83 new recipes. If you keep on reading, you will find many delicious appetizers, soups, salads, main dishes, desserts and other treats. Some recipes are a few hundred years old, while others belong to our favorite dishes from childhood. A few recipes are my own creation. They are all delicious; I hope you will enjoy them. Good luck, and I wish you all the best on your culinary journey to Hungary.
