This is the account of my sixteen months in Antarctica (voluntarily, as I have sometimes joked), in the early mid-sixties. I include how it came about, many (as many as I could remember) of my experiences, and descriptions and photos of what I saw. All new to me included: Washington D.C., Hawaii, New Zealand; Victoria Land, Antarctica; the Transantarctic Mountains, the Antarctic research and support stations McMurdo, Hallett, Scott, Beardmore and Pole (the actual south pole); ice bergs, ice caves, ice breakers, a definitely major ice shelf; glaciers (one the longest in the world), Adelie penguins, emperor penguins, skua gulls; planes, helicopters, Snow cats; nacreous clouds; and generally (in my opinion) spectacular views and vistas.
Oh, and I also ÒmentionÓ (attention, Wyckoff Cousins!) how I came to have an Antarctic glacier named for me.
