Every year, the Austin E. Knowlton School of Architecture at The Ohio State University invites a renowned architect to serve as the Baumer Distinguished Professor and is both a subject and participant in a graduate seminar, which grounds students in an overview of the Professor's work, explains its motivations, and tracks its practice from conception through construction. The 2010/2011 Herbert Baumer Distinguished Visiting Professor was Toshiko Mori.
This book serves as a collection the seminarÕs efforts, which culminated with student essays on select Mori projects. Through a combination of analysis, reading, and discussion, students gain an understanding of the disciplinary contexts of each Baumer Professor's work, and through sustained attention to key projects, understand the conceptual and formal specifics of contemporary architectural production.
