Jesus told His disciples to be Perfect as the Heavenly Father is perfect. But most people misunderstand what 'perfect' means. They think that it is a description of living life in a way that they make no mistakes. They think of it as a description of how they live and act. But for Jesus, being perfect meant having no needs. It is the state of being that a disciple has, being perfect/ being complete/ having no needs, when they know the Creator God as their loving, attentive, and generous Father. As children adopted by God, Jesus' disciples become heirs to God's riches, they are attended to by God, they are empowered and comforted and helped with their prayers by the Holy Spirit, and they are members of God's family that is comprised of all of His children past and present.
