In 1945 the Quakers were seeking homes for people who had lost their own during the war. They found some cottages built by a former charity in Polegate, East Sussex, and the Bernhard Baron Foundation provided the money to buy them.
For seventy-five years there has been a continuous programme of
expansion and improvement, now with cottages and bedsit rooms
providing for a total of sixty elderly residents. The emphasis has always been on the quality of life.
This book tells of the people who
wittingly or unwittingly made the Homes possible, about the
residents, and about the members of staff who care for them.
