The mission of the Awards is to identify teenagers (grades 7-12) with exceptional artistic and literary talent and bring their remarkable work to a national audience. The categories of writing include critical essay, flash fiction, humor, journalism, novel writing, personal essay/memoir, poetry, science fiction/fantasy, short story, and writing portfolio. This anthology gives us a sense of the creative talent of teens--from Belcourt to Bismark, from Watford City to Fargo--and captures a view of what was important to them in 2019.. The works are judged on creativity, personal voice, and technical skill. Students have complete freedom of expression.
