A story about three generations of Native American men as individuals separated from one another by pride. Just as pride has kept these men, grandfather, son, and grandson, apart, it is pride of a different kind that brings them back together. Their heritage takes on new importance to these men and bridges the generations.
Once, the grandson Lenny, lived in a self-created fog of cold indifference keeping him distanced from his family and his classmates in school. His father, Lachpikin, worked in construction and lived a fairly solitary life, choosing to avoid social interaction. The grandfather lives far up in the mountains as a hermit in solitude.
When Lenny becomes the contemporary recipient of many generations of knowledge passed on from his grandfather, he changes his attitude and softens his heart. Lenny gains a new respect for his people and a love for his father and his grandfather.
