This books covers the research about the experience of arriving to New York City.
New York City receives hundreds of immigrants looking for better opportunities and a better life every day. In recent years the experience of arriving to New York city has dramatically changed from what it used to be when the port of entry were immigration centers such as Ellis Island. Immigrants often face numerous challenges such as language barrier and social challenges which makes the transition difficult and often almost impossible to settle down. New York City offers multiple programs and services to make the transition easier, however, itÕs nearly impossible to help everyone with such broad programs. As we move towards a more inclusive city, it is important to offer culturally specific services for everyone. This Mexican gateway hub merges the functions of a welcome and immigration center, along with embassy services to help the rapidly growing Mexican population in Sunset Park and NYC as a whole. By combining these functions, this projects seeks to provide the most essential services to the Mexican community and provide a place where they can culturally express themselves. Furthermore, this project aims to rethink what immigration centers and embassies are and how can those buildings be more than just office spaces but rather community driven places that fosters a sense of belonging and feels like home but at the same time be sustainable and efficient.
