ItÕs dusk and Dakota, a wild horse behavioral scientist, has car trouble on her way through the Muddy Mountain Wilderness wildlife preserve in Nevada. With no town nearby, she decides to explore the area for a place to spend the night. She discovers a young girl in Snake Cave in Lovell Canyon who appears to have been living with two wild horses. One of the horses is wounded and needs immediate medical attention.
Free, the young girl known to humans as Kristi, believes she is a horse as human ways are foreign to her. To save her mother and fulfill a legendary prophecy, Kristi pursues a quest to acquire a magic Amulet that will fulfill her dream of becoming a real horse.
