The once natural upland forest, ecologically diverse Texas landscape of the Houston area had been eroded over the years, converted into warehouses, transportation infrastructure, and various industries mostly associated with the oil and gas industry. This predominately industrial-warehouse use concentrated between the eastern edge of downtown Houston and Galveston Bay. The work within the following pages summarizes the research, investigation of alternatives, and planning and design proposals of each student enrolled in the fall studio. The work of the students explores a variety of alternative futures for this diamond-in-the-rough project area. In this work students show the potential of the area to be transformed into a livable, healthy, and economically vibrant community to meet the growth needs of the City of Houston, Texas.
