BOLD STORIES #1: This is one of the truly rare comics of the early 1950s, and an BOLD experiment (pun intended) in merging the mainstream comic with the adult-oriented cartoon magazines. It only lasted for three issues, and a fine quality copy today can cost hundreds, even thousands Ð no wonder, considering the quality of the work inside. This book contains ÒThe Ogre Of ParisÓ by Wally Wood, ÒMiss SherlockÓ by Jack O' Brian, and there's little doubt that jack Kirby had a hand in ÒCriss Cross.Ó Many stories have yet to be definitively attributed, but you can see the talented ribaldry throughout. By the standards of some, both today and back when it was published, BOLD STORIES might be low-brow, definitely sexist, and not for the eyes of the kids.... but this is true comic history!

It was part of an experiment from Kirby Publishing in the early 1950s Ð a series of adult-oriented humor and suspense magazines geared toward the mainstream rather than the back room. It took advantage of some of the top talents of the day Ð in the case of CANDID TALES some Wally Wood and lot of Bob Powell! Sadly, the experiment, and Kirby Publishing, was gone in a matter of a couple years, but we have the benefits of modern publishing terminology to bring these great books back to life! CANDID TALES ran for two issues, both of which can be rare and expensive to find. Here we have CANDID TALES #1 Ð just as funny today as it was over 70 years ago Ð although perhaps considered a little less appropriate and less socially correct, but I think that only makes them better!

NOTE; This is the full-sized version. You can also find it in a digest-sized version, closer the the original published size.
