Theodore and James were two brothers who discovered a secret passageway in the estate their parents worked for. The passageway led to a few rooms full of books, journals, and other things. They tell the other children and youth who's families work on the estate and form a club: the Candleswitch club.
Theodore, James and the other kids decide to start a newspaper and writing club of their own. They also decided to look into the Wicktrimmers and see if it was true and if they were still meeting. They wanted to know the history of it and if there were other estates like theirs with secret rooms. Are there other places like theirs? Are there Wicktrimmers still out there? What are they doing with their lives today and what kind of impact has this had on the lives of Theodore and James?
