The Celtic tunes used in these pieces are traditional folk songs from England, Ireland, and Scotland. Some of the texts use words or phrases from the folk song along with the new sacred text.

Originally these songs were written for unaccompanied choir. When not sung in SATB, the accompaniment may be broadened out using the chord symbols. They work well when played by a small band, with or without the keyboard. Flute, piccolo, or recorder may be used in place of an Irish tin whistle. Other possible instruments are fiddle (violin), guitar, bass and Irish hand drum. It is effective to have the band play the verse or refrain as introductions or interludes as well as playing with the choir or soloist. Always try for variety when singing all verses of the song.
