Chatham County was formed in 1771, from the southern part of Orange County. Chatham County is within the Granville District (35 deg north 34 min lat) and contains very old settlers and road routes.
Miscellaneous land records are a Òcatch allÓ of land disputes, agreements, surveys, etc. In fact, it is also apparent that if a county has too small of an ejectment collection to warrant a standalone box(s) then they appear in their miscellaneous collection. Chatham Co. have their ejectments in Misc. Records (box 1) and transcribed in this authors work in Volume 1.
This is the second and last box or records for this county, and contains more of the usual Òodds and endsÓ that reside in a miscellaneous collection. However, one key part of this box is the wonderful folder of plats and surveys. A plat (drawing) can help so much in certain cases where the text is difficult to follow. As the saying goes Ð a picture is worth more than a thousand words.
