This last decade has seen how China has deployed together with its strategic partners a series of initiatives that go beyond economic complementarity, related to industrial or infrastructure matters. However, there has also been an increase in initiatives related to the generation of regional platforms that enhance China's image as a new sophisticated partner.
In this configuration, this study distances itself from the common approach which states that China only transfers influence in Latin America through aid and loans and that the Asian country is perceived as the new donor in the neighborhood. The originality of this research is the answer to the question of how and why China has developed a strategy mainly through its FTAs, in order to transmit complex influence which includes technology transfers and the creation of sophisticated platforms. All this finally supports the expansion of China as a global constructive leader.
Theoretically, these results provide new insight into how the new strategic partnerships in Latin America take a more active position in the new great geo-economic game that the Asian giant is involved in. This book develops a multidimensional research design to demonstrate this point of view.
