Poca Madre Arts is pleased to present Continental Divide, an exhibition of new photo, installation and performance work by Austin-based, multidisciplinary artist and independent curator Michael Anthony Garc’a.
The work presented speaks to cultural separation and alienation of the communities of color in the city of Austin, to initiate dialogue about these issues which have arisen from its booming growth.
The body of work presented in the exhibition is comprised of photos of site-specific installations/ portraits of Austinites-of-color projected onto their beds and clothing, with a related group of works setting clothing in natural settings along AustinÕs Greenbelt. Additionally, a large installation composed of clothing sourced from various parts of the city will serve as a backdrop for a performance being debuted during opening night.
