This publication is the tangible evidence of a new morpho-typological design theory based on analytical philosophy. Nevertheless, it is not just a theory; it is also a compendium of the practical results of an upper-level studio at the School of Architecture of the University of Miami where the theory was challenged by means of practical projects. Under the sponsorship of the Canin Travel Research Award, ten students documented eighteen courtyard archetypes, traveled to Mexico to understand the form and building rules of three traditional cities, and tested the results of their investigation in the context of an urban design project located at the urban/rural edge of the City of Homestead, Florida. The book is also an introduction to the applications of courtyard houses in the production of contemporary urban places as well as a testimony of Jaime CorreaÕs commitment to the cultural reconstitution of the city.
