He was one of the most popular, most talented, and most successful of the singing and acting cowboys of the 20th Century, so much so that he was called, ÒThe King....Ó A star of over 100 movies, a hit TV series, radio shows and appearances, and a highly-successful music career, Roy (1911-1998) won awards in all these venues and more. It's only natural that his adventures would be depicted in the comics, too! Like many cowboy stars, his horse was more than a method of transportation, he was partner and friend. The horse was as much a household name as the man who rode him, which is how it should be. In this case the FAITHFUL STEED graduated to his own successful comic title, beginning with Four-Color #329 (#1) and then 16 more solo issues (1951-1955). Once this series ended he would get star billing along with Cowboy Roy for many years to come! Most of his early stories are unattributed or uncertain as to illustrator Ð but these are some amazing western tales!
