"Curtains of Light" is a septet for trumpet, trombone, violin, viola, cello, harp and percussion inspired by the Northern Lights. This piece was commissioned by Carol and Jim Oleson. Having visited Alaska to see the Northern Lights for their fiftieth wedding anniversary, they commissioned me to write a piece that would capture in music their experience. The piece is made up of eight overlapping soundscapes that evoke the wonder they felt, as well as the scientific explanation for the aurorae.
