In the late 1890s a young woman arrives in Livermore from Wales to marry her intended, only to find he has been killed in a coal mining accident. Destitute and alone, she is taken in by a cattle ranch owner until her future can be sorted out. She settles into ranch life and soon is profitably occupied by sewing. The ranch foreman is smitten by her beauty, wit, and perseverance. Slowly they become more than friends until one day she receives news requiring a decision that could be life altering.
