DETECTIVE DAN (later aka Dan Dunn in comics) was one of the early 10-cent monthly comics which pre-dated the Golden Age, and influenced it heavily. Norman Marsh created this hard-nosed and quick-fisted lawman , perhaps thinking he could turn it into a lucrative newspaper strip. Not only did he achieve that goal, but Dan Dunn became a regular comic book hero, appeared in Big Little Books, and even had a radio show! From the humble beginning of this black and white comic came one of the lynchpins of the Golden Age, and influencer of a guy we would come to know as Superman Ð none other than DETECTIVE DAN: SECRET OPERATIVE NO. 48!
