The Doctrine and Covenants is canon for several denominations within the Latter Day Saint movement, including the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (CJCLdS) and Community of Christ (the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints or RLDS Church). This book contains the original two parts: lectures laying out basic church doctrine, and collection of revelations, the "covenants" of the church. This volume was first published in 1835, replacing the Book of Commandments, which had only been partially printed in a couple of years prior in 1833. On August 17, 1835 this book was presented to the Saints in a General Conference. Thought Joseph Smith Jr. and Frederick Williams were absent, Oliver Cowdery and Sidney Rigdon were present to join with the Saints in unanimous vote to accept both the Doctrine and the Covenants in a canon for the Church of the Latter Day Saints.
