Drawing can be a record, a form of art, and a way of seeing and understanding. When sketching you gain a complete understanding of the structure, noticing elements that are often overlooked. Each designer has their own method of drawing, just as they have their own ideas on how a structure must be designed.
At the beginning of my senior year I realized that I wanted to find a way to continue my passion for the history of Geneva, architecture, and drawing. I made the decision to generate an honors project devoted to a historical and structural analysis of the buildings on South Main Street. My intention was to provide a book that was both a work of art as well as a permanent historical record, like Giovanni Battista PiranesiÕs various etchings of ancient Roman structures. I planned to achieve this through a vigorous visual analysis of underlying geometry, rhythm, proportion, and materials.
