For most of 2020, I struggled with diet logging.

I'd known for years that fostering a habit of tracking my food and lifestyle choices would be supportive of my health, but I just couldn't seem to get myself to keep up with it. Every time I got motivated to start, I would inevitably quit within days, and consequently I'd beat myself up mentally for what I perceived as a lack of self-discipline and focus.

Despite the fact that logging in a notebook was fast and simple, it still seemed like too much energy expenditure... too much of a draw away from more pressing matters. It was a pain to keep track of my log, and I felt unsatisfied with the amount of information I was actually gathering.

Fast forward to November 2020. After completing HLC 2 training through the CHEK Institute for the 2nd time, my mind was made up. I needed to figure out how to diet log consistently so that I could authentically coach and guide my clients through it as they resolved their health challenges.

So I began researching habit change.

Among other things, I learned that habit change experts (like James Clear in "Atomic Habits") have shown that diet logging is a "keystone habit," meaning that establishing this one habit in your routine unlocks your ability to easily establish many other health-supportive habits. This was incredibly validating and spurred me forward.

I realized that to change my habits successfully I needed to change my diet logging so that it was:
1) obvious
2) attractive
3) easy
4) satisfying

With those criteria in mind, I began work on a custom, CHEK-inspired diet log.

After much trial and error, my efforts have culminated here in the Ò28-Day Eidetic Health Diet and Lifestyle Tracker (Version 3.0).Ó
