Just then we spied a female black bear with a cub coming around the bare slope above us. She was nearly 200 yard away, unaware of our presence buy headed directly towards us. Had it not been fro the cub we would have been skinning out a bear rug in a matter of minutes. However, the baby was much too young to survive on its own. Black bears are not usually vicious but a protective mother could be extremely dangerous. We began to yell at the top of our voices and to wave our arms hoping to scare the bears away. The mother stopped and stood up for a look. I felt sure she could not determine just what was taking place. Then with a clearly audible snort she hit the ground running; right towards us...
