The emergence of an artistÕs voice:
implementing visual art as a research method to support professional transformations.
This research presents my endeavour to develop a voice through my art practice. It depicts how my socio-cultural lived experience, as well as the education system I grew up in, has inhibited my voice. I analyse and compare these lived experiences with the effect neoliberal policies have on education currently, and how these policies affect me as a teacher and help perpetuate the silencing of my voice. Using the writings of Freire (1970, 1974) and other pedagogues I investigate how democratic and critical pedagogies can act as an alternative to the performativity driven system.
