Beautiful, gracious, gregarious Emily Padey Martin emigrated in 1851 as a young girl from Lyon, France to San Francisco. She became an heiress to a considerable fortune in California real estate, and in 1870 married Remi Chabot, the dashing younger brother of entrepreneur Anthony Chabot. Emily became a prominent member of her East Bay community, entertaining diplomats, inventors, business tycoons, and impoverished ŽmigrŽs with equal cordiality. As a strong, forward-thinking feminist, she was especially generous to women artists and scientists, and joined other notable women in the East Bay in sponsoring far-ranging philanthropic causes. This is the story of Emily's remarkable life and her contribution to the history of California., Women's History, Woman Philanthropists, San Francisco History, St. Helena History, Wine Country History, East Bay History, Lucy Rau Ferguson| 9781968822019 | 170PAGES
