NEW 2019-20 EDITION (Minimal changes compared to recent editions) - This syllabus is comprised of slides from Dr. Mary Beth Whitcomb's lectures at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine for the 2019-20 academic year. They are available for purchase to veterinary students & practicing veterinarians through lulu.com in print form. Topics covered include ultrasound fundamentals (artifacts, machine controls, transducer manipulations), thoracic & abdominal ultrasound, equine echocardiography & small parts ultrasound (neonatal, vascular structures, eye, head, glands). Musculoskeletal ultrasound topics include the metacarpus, metatarsus, pastern, distal extremity, stifle, shoulder & pelvis. These notes are meant to help students and practitioners stall side when scanning in an ambulatory or hospital setting. They are not intended to be a complete resource but were made available for purchase after receiving requests from practicing equine veterinarians.
