Erie Centennial 1851-1951
This is a reproduction of the City of Erie PennsylvaniaÕs 1951 Centennial. Erie PA has had a long history, growing with the country as it expanded west in the early 1800Õs. This book highlights the city in its manufacturing heyday. The country was just out of World War II and industry was in full swing producing consumer goods and Erie manufacturing was contributing to this economic boom. You can see the strong manufacturing history in Erie from the photos of the many large manufacturing plant in the city.
It is amazing to see the changes that have occurred to Erie in the last 70 years. Just looking through the list of ads in the book, we see how many of the old factories are gone, foundries, machine shops and papermills, and think of the thousands of workers who made their livelihoods there. Additionally, you can see the advertisements of the hundreds of businesses and stores that have gone.
