Roman Lodge was chartered on February 13, 1799 and was deeply rooted in a revolutionary origin. Roman Lodge members met regularly until the period of the grim Morgan Affair. Freemasonry began to recover during 1850 and a new charter for Roman Lodge No. 223 was granted on June 15, 1851. Freemasonry in Rome continued to flourish as the 19th century bowed on a very positive note.

The dawn of the twentieth century brought with it a growing strength in Rome Masonic membership, a need for new quarters which officially opened in 1908, and soon afterwards the chartering of Hatheway Lodge No. 869. During this century the Masonic family in Rome provided its members a haven of true brotherhood and protection from the rage around it.

The twenty-first century arrived with global access to Freemasonry in Rome. But the lodge still remains a continuing relevance to men of all backgrounds. In its simplest form, the lamp of faith lit in 1799 continues to burn brightly 213 years later., fraternity, freemasonry, Rome New York, Hatheway Lodge, Roman-Hatheway Lodge, history of Freemasonry, George Silverman| | 328PAGES
