Ignoring the modern cliches' such as ÒRipped From The HeadlinesÓ the crime comics of the 1940s and 1950s had a knack for taking the true crime stories of the day and making them larger than life. That the bad guy (or gal) was going to meet a violent or unhappy end was a given Ð comics would never promote getting away with it Ð but along the way readers were treated to some of the most exciting tales the mind of man could devise. FAMOUS CRIMES dealt with killers and bank robbers, gangsters and gun molls, sex and drugs, and shows us both the worst of the worst and the bets of the best. Two stories in Volume 1 were used in the infamous Seduction Of The Innocent as examples of how comics were destroying American youth --- but we know better; it was all good clean fun and instruction that CRIME DOES NOT PAY!
