Folio is a collection of contemporary artwork created by members of the Detroit Society of Women Painters & Sculptors. The 80 featured artists are painters, printmakers, and sculptors who work in a range of media, from oil and watercolor to charcoal and encaustic; and in a variety of styles, from representational to abstract. Together, they present a cross-section of the artwork being produced today by the vibrant art community in metropolitan Detroit. Founded in 1903, the Society is the oldest organized art group in Michigan and the second oldest womenÕs art organization in the country. In its second century, the Society still aims for high achievement among its members by holding juried exhibitions, presenting interesting and informative programs, and encouraging talented women artists by offering scholarships.
