These are color photographs of an extended sequence that spans several bodies of work from 2009 until 2012. Perhaps IÕm obsessed with impermanence, not like the Buddhists, but as a woman in the moment, studying Òthe nowÓ as Heideggar did. This work references sense of self amidst a jarring and stimulating world, and encountering the constant sense of struggle between our identity and messages imposed upon us through any outside influence. I liken this to SartreÕs negation of being. When we go about the world, we have expectations which are often not fulfilled. Sartre claimed ÒIt is evident that non-being always appears within the limits of a human expectation.Ó It is within the framework of non-being in which I react, making sense of what connects, what does not.
