Gaiena, ten landscapes from JaŽn, is originated as a commission by the Diputaci—n Provincial de JaŽn for the 56th edition of the International Piano Competition Premio "JaŽn". The title refers to the derivation of JaŽn, and it would proceed as a possible hypothesis, from the Latin name [villa] Gaiena, "the town of Gaius', which would stay over time as Gaien.
The work is a tour of the ten areas of the province, from Martos to JaŽn. The titles of each of the piece parts depict some characteristic of each of the cities.
Except the numbers II, III, V, X and XI, the remaining parts of the works are imbued with the theme "Joy, joy" jienense popular carol, from the village Beas de Segura.
The work is dedicated "to the lands and people of JaŽn".
