The book summarizes and more precisely identify the data found on the death notices of German soldiers (German: Sterbebild). This work "gives" a face to the soldiers, who were often only left with a name on a tombstone or in the list of the dead. They were real, flesh-and-blood people, and we didn't want them to remain just numbers in a list of statistics. They all had their own (very) human destiny, which was prematurely ended by the events of the war and their life's journey ended on the territory of our country. Please do not under any circumstances look for politics or ideology behind our motivation. The tragic fates of fallen soldiers should not be forgotten, regardless of which army they served in. The look on their faces should encourage reconciliation and learn from history.
The second goal of the authors was to create a kind of aid for the collectors of these death notices, to provide them with information and also instructions on how to proceed when reading and "decrypting" the data listed on them. It can also be a valuable additional source of information for historians, as it contains a number of small details that complete the overall picture of the battles in Slovakia during the Second World War. Last but not least, it can help families of fallen soldiers learn more about their ancestor, who are buried in a foreign country often unknown to them.
